Get Fit Tips - 5K Fun

We all know getting motivated is hard. For some, being active is TRUE WORK. Almost like having another job. I’m one of those people who goes to the gym - I do a little cardio and then I’m bored. A few years back, I did my first 5K run with my friend Courtney and her husband Darryl. It was “Glow Run” that happened around dusk in the dead heat of summer. But let me tell you, it was so fun! and fun is exactly what you need when you can’t get motivated. Last year, a group of friends and I did the Color Run. Check out some of the photos from the event below.

So rather than planning a lunch date, plan a 5K date. Get a team together, pick an awesome name, and be prepared to burn some calories and have a good time while doing it. There are also so many benefits to running. It can help lower blood pressure and relieve stress. It also targets our favorite areas ladies - the glutes and the abs!

So - lets say you find the perfect 5K. Of course you need to train! You don’t want to assume that you are going to be able to run the entire 3.1 miles. As you can tell from our last Get Fit Tips, I’m a huge fan of fitness apps. C25K® is Couch to 5K. You will train for 30 minutes a day, 3 days a week, for 8 weeks total.

My friend and I used this to train for the Color Run. The app gives you a variety of intervals. Each week, your run time will increase. Its also great because it connects to other apps and lets you brag on Facebook and Instagram about your success of completing the exercise. My next 5K is scheduled for September 17th. I plan to use this to train again. I’ll be sure to provide you all deets with how the run goes! And if you happen to run one, let us know.

  1. I would love to run a 5K one day. I first need to get motivated to work out. I was supposed to be working out now but came across your blog lol. I guess this is a sign for me to get up and start.
