June Whit Picks: Barbados, San Diego, Pattern Meetup & More!

What a crazy month this has been! With just a few days left in the month, I am well overdue giving you an update on some of my fashion picks for the month. I've done a lot of traveling (started the month returning from a week-long vacation to Barbados - such a beautiful island, and recently went to San Diego for a weekend trip), did some shopping and got a chance to catch up on local fashion apparel brands at a Pattern meetup this week (the fashion networking group I am a part of). So, I thought I would give you a quick rundown of some fashion favorites and my purchases over the past month!

Barbados

Crane Beach, Barbados

So much to say about this place! I loved it there: the weather, the beaches, the food, the nightlife… definitely a place you should experience at least once. I took some of the most beautiful photos while there - the scenery is beautiful and the water is the perfect turquoise blue. I mostly bought souvenirs while there, not too many clothing purchases, but I had a lot of fun dressing for the weather every day. Here are a few of the things I wore while there:

I got a chance to wear all my new H&M swimwear to the beaches and pools, as well as a body chain that I made myself (it was very easy to make)! I also kept it simple every day in mostly dresses or shorts and breezy tops over my swimwear (I stayed in the water a lot). Many of the items I blogged about in May were worn on vacation, including the favorite TopShop striped midi dress and another striped midi dress I got at Forever 21 (pictured above). While in Barbados, I met up with blogger friend Damien from Kedrew.com who invited me to the Baje International launch, which was an exciting fashion show to launch the costumes that are worn at Crop Over 2013. Here are a few of the pics I snapped from the event:

I was actually a little bummed upon returning home to Indy in early June because it wasn't as hot as it was in Barbados… I had gotten used to that warm weather, haha!

San Diego

This was a quick weekend trip with family to celebrate my dad's birthday and father's day. I had been to San Diego once before, but only on a day trip, so that time I really got to experience the city. I absolutely loved it - we stayed in a great location, the Gas Lamp District, which is right in the middle of everything. I was lucky enough to run into my good friend Dominique who happened to be in town at the same time, so we had a lot of fun together while there.

I did some good shopping while in the city and visiting Coronado Island, and got a chance to wear my Buffalo Maxi Skirt with side slit ($25, pictured above). I got a few things from Pink Zone and ran into this great jewelry store called So Good Jewelry - I found out they sold a lot of items with butterflies on them, which was something I COULD NOT pass up (I have a love of anything with butterflies). Here is some of the jewelry I found:

Victoria's Secret Semi Annual Sale

Ladies… you know the deal! Lol, I can never pass this sale up, and honestly it's the main time I buy bras from VS. As soon as the sale started in stores, I found my favorite location and grabbed a few items. I took the time to get remeasured since my weight loss has changed my size. I also couldn't pass up the cute PINK stuff (yoga pants get me every time)! Here are some things I purchased:

Forever 21 & H&M

I still love these stores because they are affordable and trendy, and I can always find items here and there every month. I was looking for shorts and ended up finding this tribal dress that was only $13.80:

Not sure where I will wear it, but I tried it on and it was cute and that price couldn't be passed up.

At H&M, I went back for more swimwear. This time I looked for some bright colored bikini… I ended up going with a neon pink. Found cute shorts as well:

Bikini Top: $14.95, Bikini Bottom: $9.95, Shorts: $17.95

Pattern Meetup

This past week I went to Pattern's June Meetup. This month's topic was how to start up a successful fashion e-commerce business. I checked out a few local boutique owners displaying their clothing - 3 in particular, who each had some notable pieces.

Lux & Ivy:

This men's and women's vintage apparel, housewares & curiosities brand has super cute and affordable items. I checked out the items on display at the event and met founder and CEO Sara Baldwin. The Lux & Ivy x U.S.I.  (United State of Indiana) collaboration items caught my eye, especially a cute tote bag that I purchased.

Lux & Ivy USI Tote: $25

Sara explained to me that U.S.I. provides her their logo on the shirts and she adds them to different items, creating fresh new products. This is their first ever collaboration - find out more information here.

2 other retailers I browsed through had some nice clothing on display:

Righno Boutique: Men's and women's apparel and accessories with some bold touches.

PipLey Vintage: Cute vintage inspired clothing - a lot of nice maxi dresses.

Hope you enjoyed my picks from the month. I hope July is just as exciting!
