Back in October, we got a chance to get introduced to new lifestyle brand PRSVR when one of us got the chance to check out the runway showcase during Midwest Fashion Week in Indianapolis. The line includes luggage, outerwear, and clothing made from slaughter-free leather. After being impressed by the collection, we got in touch with founder and designer Brandon Williamson, who was nice enough to do an interview with us and give us some inside details on how he got his start as a designer, his inspirations and 2013 plans for PRSVR, a brand he says is for everyday people working hard to achieve their goals. Check out the interview below!

CEO & Designer Brandon Williamson

Tell us a little about your background and what led you into the fashion industry.

My history within the industry began with my work as a cobbler. I was able to see first-hand how different types of shoes and luggage are made and where their weak points where. I worked retail in several different capacities from buying to selling to managing to taking care of different sales opportunities and goals.

I also headed up a development team that created the SoleSearch application for iPhone and Android platforms. SoleSearch is a sneaker based application that allows for users to find boutiques close to them no matter where in the world they are at the time! So, I had to have very extensive knowledge of who was doing what and where.....it's really been just an evolution of a dream I had a long long time ago.

Explain the essence and meaning behind PRSVR.

PRSVR is a shortened version of the brand's full name: Persévérer which means "to persevere." It is largely based on the desire to better oneself. We make pieces that will take you wherever you need to go, whether that's the office, the gym, the airport, the club, anywhere! The brand is based around our 5 fundamentals for progress and perseverance: Passion, Resilience, Sacrifice, Values and Respect.

A lot of people feel they can start up a clothing line, but you have to have a true passion, vision and be able to pay attention to detail to be good at it, which you definitely showcase. What drives your work?

There's a Lupe Fiasco line that says something like "did you improve on a design or did you do something new?" It's easy to just hop on a trend, but we are really trying to offer up something new and different. Our message is so important to us...that of perseverance. We really feel like it drives us; the need to spread that line of thought. Everyone needs to realize that they can achieve and accomplish anything. We are not any more special than you are. This brand is YOU, so come on and let's get moving!

We know of some celebs who have worn PRSVR - who are some celebs you would love to see wearing your clothing in the future? (We could definitely see people like Usher wearing the jackets, Rihanna, Kim and Kanye wearing the luxury track pants and T.I. carrying the bags)

It is exciting when we see so-called celebrities wearing our pieces, but that's not really where our focus is. The brand was made for people just like us...those who are working hard everyday, maybe in a job they don't like, making sacrifices because they have a dream and a goal. We want people to wear our clothes and carry our bags and feel like they are one step closer to achieving their goals.

When I saw your collection at Midwest Fashion Week back in October, I definitely got that you were communicating an upscale lifestyle on the go, and the title of your current collection is appropriately named "Destination." What inspired this collection?

Travel. While creating the SoleSearch application, my team and I were constantly on the go. We'd go from the train to a cab to a plane and from warm weather to cold weather all in one day! We saw a need for travel essentials that were functional, and of course stylish too! We used leather because it is super durable and easy to clean, created designs that were timeless yet distinguishable (because you always want to be noticed for the right reasons), added a pop of color with our signature pink lining, and made sure everything was functional. Like, all of our luggage fits carry-on regulations, and added special features to the clothing like zip-off sleeves to take you easily from the cold to the heat without having to pack an extra piece!

There were many pieces that stood out on the runway. One in particular, the red leather Combination Cycle Jacket, made me think of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video. Are there any iconic people or looks from the past that inspire your work?

Nas, James Dean, Ozwald Boateng, Ghostface, Robert DeNiro, George Clooney, and Ralph Lauren are all big influences to me personally.

Leather is a big trend this season. What are some other trends you love right now?

Camouflage...we are developing our very own custom camo print right now! Gold...especially rose gold! And, I see an Air Force One comeback!

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

It's hard to say! We are still having so much fun...I'd have to say the moment when my mother finally understood that this is what I'm going to do..that was when I was properly able to display my vision and it was set from there.

What do you have planned for 2013?

2013 will debut our first Transformation and Vacation Collections! We excited to show what we can do with prints and materials other than leather. We will also be opening our showroom in Chicago.

Lastly, let us know where we can shop for your collection?

Soon you can shop our showroom in Chicago, but for now and always, www.PRSVR.com You can email me directly with any sizing questions or just to chat at brandon@PRSVR.com. We will be expanding into select retail locations in 2013 in Atlanta, NYC, Miami, and L.A.
