Beyonce,

Requested Look: Military Makeover for Homecoming

We got a request from Get WHIT It reader Anita recently:

I'm headed back to my alma mater for homecoming and I have been wearing a uniform for almost 4 years now (US Army). Needless to say my fashion sense is suffering. I'm 34 and looking for something sexy but classy for a party as well as a super cute way to be fly at the game! Your help would be much appreciated!

I (Whit W) am an Army Brat, so I gladly accepted the challenge!

Anita told us for starters, she has some black suede Steve Madden boots that she wants to wear and she loves the leather shorts trend. The first thing that popped into my head was Beyonce's recent Barclays performance in Brooklyn, so that inspired me:

Beyonce Inspired Look
House Of Harlow, Townsend, Topshop, Charlotte Russe

This look seems more on the edgy side, which Anita said she loves, but really it's all in the way you wear it. The fit of everything is key. The shorts don't have to be as short and snug as Beyonce's (remember her look was a stage look) and the top should be loose. If you do it right, it can potentially be a sexy night out look. A few more options for the Beyonce-inspired look:

As for the actual Homecoming festivities, keep it fairly simple in jeans and cute and comfy tops and jackets, depending on the weather. If you would like to wear your Steve Madden boots, go right ahead, or opt for a comfier flatter pair. Options below:

Anita needed additional options for a party. It's a good idea to buy some good basics that will act as great foundations for many transforming looks (that you can continue to use in the future). I suggest finding a good skirt and blazer. From there you can pair many tops with the skirt and add a blazer or wear a pants/top/blazer combo. You also should find a good dress. Here are some options:

Don't forget to accessorize! This will take any look to the next level, completing it and adding that extra flair or edge you want.

Hope this helps!
