Fashion Recap: Midwest Fashion Week

Last week I went out in downtown Indianapolis with a few friends to enjoy some of the runway shows during Midwest Fashion Week, founded by Catou fashion designer Berny Martin a few years ago. This was my first year getting a chance to experience it, but from all the buzz I had heard from the past, it definitely seems that each year it gets bigger and better. I am excited to see more fashion related events come to Indianapolis and see the fashion community grow, so I am sure that in time more great things will be happening. Learn more about Midwest Fashion Week here.

I went to the Emerging Runway Showcase last Wednesday as well as the Grand Finale Show on Friday. Overall, I saw a range of upscale, urban, chic, casual, swimwear and unique women's and menswear looks from local, national and international designers. Here's a recap of what I saw and info on each of the designers from the 2 nights I went:

On Emerging Runway Showcase night last Wednesday, which was opening night, I saw 5 designers, including Midwest Fashion Week Founder Berny Martin's collection Catou. I made sure to take a pic while there (I kept my look pretty simple):

Here's a rundown of the designers along with links to watch each show (courtesy of NightlightsTV):

Ali Robbins - Watch runway show
Work wear that transforms to night looks. A lot of browns used as a base for her color pallette.

JH Fashions - Watch runway show | @JHFashionsNow
Indiana designer Jhanelle Baker showcased a range of shapes and details - cutouts, elbow patches, zippers, splits and ruffles.

Lanae Monique Designs - Watch runway show
Up and coming designer from Indiana showcased a cohesive collection of sophisticated women's looks, often featuring prints. One of my favorites was a two-piece look - white jacket and printed shorts (shown above).

Poppy Seeds - Watch runway show | @PoppySeeds101
Danisha Brown and Krista Alter, also designers from Indianapolis, showcased her swimwear collection, inspired by the "modern day Norma Jean."

Catou - Watch runway show | @CatouWear
Berny Martin finished off the show with a well tailored chic collection of menswear and women's looks. Mostly evening looks (a lot of suits and a few gowns)

Grand Finale Show

Anton Alexander - Watch the runway show | @AntonAFashion
Business with a twist - menswear featuring unexpected pops of color.

Zathan Marcs - Watch runway show | @ZathanMarcs
Out of all the collections I saw, this was probably the most out of the box collection. Even the models' walks sometimes matched the style of clothing, which looked like it could have been ready for a horror film. The blue and silver brocade gown was a definite favorite.

Persévérer (PRSVR) - Watch runway show | @PRSVR
PRSVR was a standout of the night, featuring upscale unisex leather jackets, vests, pants and bags for the person on the go. Leather is hot this season as well as a classic that never goes out of style, and I loved the textures and fit of the items in the collection. Look out for an interview with Chicago based designer Brandon Williamson soon!

Sherry Couture - Watch runway show
This line, exclusive to Grace Boutique in Indianapolis, showcased a range of evening looks for going out. I saw a lot of textures and colors.

Ayesha Ibrahim - Watch runway show
This designer from Pakistan showcased a fusion of intricately designed pieces with rich vibrant color.

Perfection by Francesca Alejo - Watch runway show | @PERFECTIONbyFA
The presentation of her show stood out. There were a few two-tone gowns and many menswear looks. A standout was a coat with a hanging front panel that doubled as a scarf.

Gidi - Watch runway show | @Gidionline
Chicago designer Taneasha Prunty finished out the night with her amazing collection. I loved the dresses, especially a belted lace and yellow number. It's all in the details and quality. Taneasha informed us that she will be opening a small studio on November 15th at 44 E. Grand Ave in Chicago.

I also must mention I got to see friend and fellow blogger Nicole McClain of Notable Styles and More go on stage to give her review of one of the shows as well as speak on some of the notable trends of the season!

Overall, I enjoyed myself and looking forward to Midwest Fashion Week being bigger and better in years to come!
