Fashion Recap: 84th Annual Academy Awards

Last night the biggest night in red carpet fashion, the 84th annual Academy Awards, brought some of the biggest and brightest stars out. As always, we have the fashion for the event covered. A few trends we noticed: one shoulder looks, peplum cut, long sleeves, neutral gowns and shades of green. Let's look at some of the best (and worst) from the red carpet.

Definitely my (Whit W) favorite look of the night - Jennifer Lopez looked amazing in a cream Zuhair Murad gown. Love the form-fitting shape with deep plunging neckline and back. She may or may not have had a slight wardrobe malfunction while presenting on stage, but she looked fab overall with diamond earrings and an up-do.

A few leading ladies decided to compete with the red carpet in bright red hues. Michelle Williams looked beautiful in a coral Louis Vuitton dress featuring a peplum cut. The Help star Emma Stone wore a flowing Giambattista Valli dress with neck bow detail. Natalie Portman went vintage in a red Dior Haute Couture dress from Rare Vintage (1954 collection), Dior shoes, Charlotte Olympia bag and Harry Winston jewels. Not my favorite look from her.

Other leading ladies went for neutral looks.

Cameron Diaz wore a beautiful Gucci dress featuring ruffles in the lower half of the fishtail bottom. Octavia Spencer, an Oscar winner, wore a beautiful beaded Tadashi Shoji dress that complemented her figure.

Gwyneth Paltrow wore a white Tom Ford dress with a cape and Jimmy Choo sandals. She removed the cape to present. Rooney Mara looked sleek in a white mermaid gown by Givenchy. Great to see her in something other than black.

Loved Milla Jovovich in a white beaded Elie Saab dress. The red lip was perfect to pair with the clean look. Bridesmaids star Kristen Wiig wore a feminine nude dress by J.Mendel. Love the layers that add to the soft pale look.

The rest of the Bridesmaids stars all came out to present. Maya Rudolph wore a purple gown with beaded embellishments. Melissa McCarthy wore a pink Marina Rinaldi dress with Brian Atwood heels. Rose Byrne wore a shimmering black Vivienne Westwood gown. Ellie Kemper also sparkled in a metallic Armani Prive dress.

The fellas looked dapper on the red carpet. Sean "Diddy" Combs wore a black tuxedo. When does he ever go wrong? His film Undefeated, that he executive produced, won an Oscar (add that to his list of achievements). Pharrell, who did a great job as music supervisor for the ceremony, suited up in all black as well. Looking good, guys!

Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie looked their usual amazing selves in all black. Angelina Jolie wore a high slit Atelier Versace dress with Neil Lane jewelry and a Jaime Mascaro clutch (love the look but would love even more for her to gain a little weight). Brad wore Tom Ford. Are we feeling the long hair on Mr. Pitt?

Penelope Cruz & Viola Davis added some color to the red carpet. Penelope wore a beautiful blue Giorgio Armani organza gown. Viola Davis looked stunning in an emerald green Vera Wang dress - a great color on her.

Sandra Bullock wore a black and white Marchesa dress with gold detail around the hip. Jessica Chastain wore an embroidered McQueen dress. Not my favorite looks.

George Clooney wore an Armani tux and his girlfriend Stacy Keibler wore a gold metallic Marchesa dress. Anna Faris wore a black sequined gown - a disappointing choice for this ceremony, but I like the hair.

Overall, there were more great looks than bad. Who were your favorites?
